Comments to Foothill Transit on 2010 service change proposals

Southern California Transit Advocates wishes to submit the following comments for the record regarding the proposed 2010 service change program.

We believe that a better strategy for Line 187 than eliminating the first five morning trips would be to widen headways across the existing span of service. The proposed elimination would result in service beginning no earlier than 7:40am, and those trips would not arrive at the other end of the route until 9:00am. We suggest that an hourly headway in the early morning and late evening would allow for the span of service to be maintained.

We are also concerned about the halving of service levels on Line 185 and 480. These two lines' ridership are about average for the system and we feel that a lesser headway widening, from 30 minutes to 40 or 45, would be more appropriate. We also believe that weekend service should be operating at a consistent frequency during the day, and we therefore have concerns with reducing Line 480 midday weekend service.

We suggest that Line 480 and the Silver Streak be reevaluated to provide for better coordination with each other, with an eye toward possible restructuring of service to improve access and reduce costs. We especially suggest looking at the efficiency of Silver Streak during evenings and weekends and the expansion of Line 480 service to El Monte Station to provide more options for riders.
