Comments on RTA service change proposals

Southern California Transit Advocates wishes to submit the following comments on the proposed service changes by RTA.

While we do not object to the cancellation of New Year's Day service, we feel that the three other holidays proposed for no service operation (Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day) are also significant retail sales days, meaning that retail employees who use RTA to commute to and from work would be at a significant disadvantage, possibly placing their jobs at risk if they were unable to make alternate travel arrangements. For this reason, we oppose the remaining holiday service cancellations.

Regarding Line 25, we have concerns that this proposal is fueled directly by parochial concerns of RTA operating service within San Bernardino County. Even though Grand Terrace is across the county line, we must object to the rerouting of service onto two busy freeways and suggest that, especially at peak driving hours, this will result in a significant negative impact to on-time performance of the line. We suggest that an agreement be negotiated with Omnitrans regarding the preservation of existing service and routing.

We have no position on the remaining proposals.
